For early learners from ages 1-to-3 years and their care-givers. The Class incorporates dance, creative movement, art, music, and nature study -- all taught in a tri-lingual environment of English and basic vocabulary in both French and Spanish.
MagicDance Toddler offers a time-tested format of dance, games, music and art with an added emphasis on outdoor activities and nature study. Among the outdoor resources available to us at Audubon Greenwich is a nature playground, tadpole pond, wildflowers and a butterfly garden.
The toddler period is among the most important in your child’s educational development.
Between the ages of one and five, children develop many of the learning habits and social skills that will determine their success in Grade 1 and beyond. It’s the time when children establish the groundwork for reading and writing. It’s when they learn to reason, to recognize sounds and mathematical patterns, to solve problems and puzzles, to practice fine-motor skills, to express creativity, to begin to control their emotions and, above all, to develop the sense of intellectual curiosity that will underpin their later academic progress.
For 30 years, Audrey Appleby’s MagicDance techniques have been used at Whitby, Greenwich Academy, Brunswick, Greenwich Country Day, Sacred Heart, The Preschool, Rye Country Day, Parkway, North Street, Glenville, Riverside, Putnam Indian Field, Stanwich Nursery, Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center and other area schools to help young children develop a lifelong foundation for learning through music, movement and song.
MagicDance Toddler is designed expressly to provide one-to-three-year olds with a joyous early-learning enrichment program. Our classes meet in a fairytale setting at the Greenwich Audubon Center. (Except during the Winter Term, when we move to Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center in Glenville for our January, February and early March classes) See our Class Schedule.
Classes feature child-and-parent or caregiver participation. Taught by early-learning expert Audrey Appleby, activities are tailored to each toddler’s specific developmental profile.
Our curriculum uses creative arts to set and achieve specific benchmarks for your child’s learning development. Music, movement and fun are the key. Through song and dance, MagicDance Toddler joyfully focuses on advancing your child’s abilities in the nine fundamental areas of early learning:
Reading Readiness — establishing a foundation for reading and writing through song, music and movement
General Learning Skills — expanding attention span while exploring “what, why and how”
Creativity — learning through movement, music, song, music, drama, dance, drawing and sculpting
Tri-lingual — building new vocabulary, especially numbers, colors, and animals in English, French and Spanish
Mathematics — drawing and recognizing shapes, counting, patterns, rhythms, addition and subtraction
Physical Development — dance, stretching, tumbling, learning through movement
Science — extensive nature study that includes problem solving and exploring animal habitats
Social and Emotional Development — playing with others, controlling separation anxiety and strong emotions, learning the basics of cooperation and teamwork
At MagicDance Toddler, Audrey evokes an atmosphere that is wildly whimsical--yet calibrated to the attention span and learning readiness of one to three-year olds. Sessions are carefully structured to provide a familiar and comforting routine with new activities introduced as each child’s skills and understanding matures. And it’s not just the children who learn. Parents and caregivers will gain new insight into the emotional behavior and learning patterns of their toddlers and young children.
Thanks to Audrey’s 30 years of experience teaching Greenwich children, her energetic and positive personality, and her extraordinary gift for inspiring children through dance and song, you’ll soon find your toddler swept into a magical world of fun and exploration--a world that has been carefully crafted to build a foundation for preschool and engender an enduring love of learning.
