The Audubon’s new Nature Playground is an exciting addition to our traditional Nature Walk. It features a running waterfall, tree-house construction kits, a children’s slide and a life-size game of tic-tac-toe.

From bunnies to bullfrogs, children have an insatiable curiosity about the natural world. Each class begins with a Discovery visit to the interactive nature displays at the Greenwich Audubon Center.

Toddlers develop a sense of independence as they explore on their own and in small groups. Bird calls, live reptiles, bees, small mammals, local ecology are just a few of topics that fascinate children while instilling a lifelong love of learning.

Next is a period of structured play -- dance, stretching, and tumbling activities designed to encourage learning through movement while teaching the basics of teamwork and cooperation

Dance, movement and song also makes learning colors, numbers, and even tri-lingual (English, French and Spanish) vocabulary both fun and physically challenging.

“Snack from home” in the Audubon Children’s Garden is always one of the morning’s highlights.

As the seasons progress, children see natural cycles first-hand during our walking tours of the Audubon Center and Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center.

Our art projects are specifically tailored to reinforce the day’s central themes, as well as aid in the development of hand-eye coordination and other fine-motor skills.

Class concludes with a percussive drum circle and a final, calming bow to provide a moment of quiet reflection.
